Evelyn E. Kirkaldy
Illustrator, Fine Artist & Wild Woman
Evelyn Kirkaldy creates vibrant acrylic landscapes using an unconventional technique that relies entirely on painter's stir sticks rather than brushes. Through energetic drips, dots, and spatters, she captures light, colour, and movement in a single expressive process. Her work brings mountain meadows, vivid flower gardens, lush rainforests, and charismatic wildlife to life, reflecting her deep connection to the natural world and the creatures that share it—especially bears.
After graduating with honours from the Ontario College of Art, Evelyn moved west, spending several years in Calgary and two decades in Vancouver. During this time, she built a successful career as a graphic designer, illustrator, and art director, working with prominent clients and advertising agencies.
Evelyn’s true passion, however, has always been the wilderness of British Columbia and its wild inhabitants. Her journeys along the spectacular BC coast, through the Great Bear Rainforest, and her years living in the rugged landscapes of the Kootenays and later Powell River have inspired a substantial body of fine art. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries and venues throughout British Columbia and Alberta and can be found in private collections around the world. Today, she makes her home in Garden Bay.
Throughout her career, Evelyn has explored a wide range of artistic styles, media, and techniques, including oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, pencil, and pen and ink. Passionate about sharing her knowledge, she has taught both children and adults in numerous disciplines of art and design, inspiring others to develop their own creative voices.
