Why Mad Park Art
We are grateful to call the Sunshine Coast — within the swiya of the shíshálh Nation — our home. This land is rich with artistry, storytelling, and tradition, shaped by generations of people who lived, created, and shared here long before us. From traditional clothing, adornments, and tools to today’s evolving forms of art, creativity has always been a language that connects us to each other and to the land.
At Mad Park Art, we believe creativity is more than making something with your hands — it’s about making something that matters. Art invites people of all ages and backgrounds to gather, express themselves, and discover connections they didn’t know were possible. Whether it’s a drop-in session, a class, or a community event, we see art as the bridge that sparks conversation, builds friendships, and strengthens community ties.
Our purpose is simple but powerful: to provide a welcoming space where everyone — from the curious beginner to the experienced maker — feels encouraged to try, play, and create without barriers. We want people to leave not just with something they made, but with a sense of belonging, joy, and inspiration to carry into their daily lives.
At the heart of Mad Park Art are four passionate community-builders who bring their creativity, experience, and heart into every corner of the studio. Each founder contributes a unique spark — together making Mad Park Art the place where creativity and community collide.
Meet the Founders
Angela Stearns
Owner · Artist · Creator
Angela’s creativity has always been expansive, spanning film production, photography, mobile gymnastics camps, and garden design. After moving to Pender Harbour, she envisioned a space where people could explore new crafts, experiment freely, and connect without the need to buy every tool themselves. That vision became Mad Park Art. Today, Angela brings her love of photography, music, and working with children into the studio, inspiring others to tap into their own creativity. Recently, she has been focusing on nature photography and selling her prints — another way she shares her artistic eye with the community. Before her time on the Sunshine Coast, Angela spent five years fighting wildfires as a FireRanger in Ontario, an experience that honed her resilience and deepened her appreciation for collaboration and community.
Wednesday Lachance
Owner · Artist · Creator
For Wednesday, art has always been a source of comfort, joy, and connection. From childhood memories of watching Bob Ross with her father to receiving art awards in high school, creativity has been a constant thread in her life. At Mad Park Art, she shares this love with others, creating an environment that is warm, playful, and inspiring. Wednesday’s artistic interests are wide-ranging, from miniatures and polymer clay to felted plants and crochet — a skill she picked back up at age 40 and has since mastered with lightning speed, producing blankets that showcase her dedication and artistry. Beyond her work in the studio, Wednesday brings a sense of humor and storytelling that makes every project feel more inviting. Her unique journey even includes a cameo as an extra in the final X-Files episode filmed in Vancouver, a reminder that creativity often leads to unexpected adventures.
